About Lakers Youth Lacrosse
Lakers Youth Lacrosse is a subcommittee of the Lakeville Playground Association (501 c 3 non-profit organization) providing a lacrosse program for girls and boys ages 4-14 from the towns of Freetown, Lakeville, Middleboro, Rochester, Berkley, Acushnet and other surrounding towns.
The program(s) participate in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (boys) and Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League (girls). Games are held on Sundays in a 8 game season. Practices (1-2/week) are held on weekdays and players are expected to attend at least one practice per week in addition to the games.
Plans for the 2010 season are well underway for:
- The emphasis this season will shift to developing coaches and players by having all head coaches gain their Level 1 Certification from US Lacrosse and attend mandatory on-field clinics and 'Positive Coaching Alliance' training
- Indoor skill building sessions on Sundays beginning in January/February held at the Lakeville Athletic Club (Boys U9/U11 and Girls Grade 1/2 & 3/4) and Jungleplex (Boys U13/U15 and Girls Grade 5/6 & 7/8) in Plymouth led by Lakers Youth Lacrosse coaching staffs and invited instructors;
- Heading outdoors in mid-March for the start of weekday practices;
- The first of an eight game season on Sunday afternoons starting on April 4th;
- Jamborees in June for both girls and boys (the largest of their kind in the country);
- A U9 Boys Jamboree hosted by Lakers Youth Lacrosse with proceeds benefiting our program;
- Year end group event and youth games with the Boston Cannons (Major League Lacrosse team at Harvard Stadium);
- Collaborating with the Apponequet Regional High School players to serve as mentors for our younger players;
- and much more.
